It’s not clear if Sony views the PSVR 2 as some future foothold in “the metaverse” - they’ve suggested they’re interested - or just a great complement to the fast-selling PS5, but either pitch only works if people are playing and there are worthwhile experiences to try. There are reasons to buy a PSVR 2 and more reasons to come, but to make the headset the winner it is, something is going to have to budge. Unfortunately, no VR game is worth spending over $1,000 on hardware to play on its own. As a device that needs to connect to another $499.99 PlayStation 5 console to work, it’s a much harder sell. For a standalone headset, the $549.99 PSVR 2 is pricier than some, but by no means unreasonable. The biggest and most obvious way to generate interest in the PSVR 2 is by lowering its price. ![]() I don’t know how much of the PlayStation Store is algorithmically arranged or shows me things it thinks I’ll buy, but it seems strange to me not to at least keep some flashy reference to a new piece of hardware in the place already dedicated to selling things. Look now, and the main evidence there even is a PSVR 2 is a way to sort for VR games in the store. Boot up your PS5 during the first few days after release, and you’d be greeted with advertisements for the headset in the main menu and in the PlayStation Store. It’s not clear how aware the casual observer of the video game industry is that the PSVR 2 is even available. Games will draw eyes, but Sony could also do a better job of keeping the PSVR 2 top of mind. The stunning visuals and brand-new PS VR2 Sense controllers give a new meaning to being fully immersed into the world of Horizon. Why isn’t the PSVR 2 advertised more prominently? Screenshot by Ian Carlos Campell People will be more interested in the PSVR 2 if their favorite characters are there, plain and simple. ![]() To not put more PlayStation series on the PSVR 2, or to even tease upcoming first-party titles after the headset was released, seems like a missed opportunity to convert PlayStation faithful to the cause. Just think about how many times Sony has resold The Last of Us at this point, with little pushback from fans. Sony has successfully trained PlayStation owners to show up for blockbuster releases starring Kratos, Ellie, and Alloy, and frequently, across multiple entries and versions. The jewel in the PlayStation crown is its recognizable game series and series-leading characters. Only two launch games, Horizon Call of the Mountainand Grand Tourismo 7, were even associated with first-party PlayStation studios. A majority of the launch games for Sony’s new headset appeared on the Quest first or the original PSVR. As my colleague Raymond Wong identified previously, the PlayStation VR 2 has an exclusives problem. ![]() Horizon Call of the Mountain should have been backed up by other first-party titles.

They believed that when the 360 came out, before it was popular. But one of the reasons Microsoft doesn't, is because they believe that movie streaming is going to replace it. In being a multifunctional platform, I guess the PS3 holds the title there as it runs Blu-ray. And without bias, I can say that on the purposes of gaming that the Xbox 360 is superior in every respect. Since I've been mainly a Nintendo and Computer gaming boy for most of my life, and have haphazard exposure to the other systems, I would hazard to say I have a neutral perspective on the two systems. I think the idea that it isn't comes from people that are already too attached to fighting games on the PS3. Given that the two controllers are nearly identical, and added with the fact that the Xbox controller actually has more functions, I'd say the situation was reversed. I had zero trouble with using the Xbox controls with it. Rough count, give or take six or something. One full game, and 19 something or that on the Genesis Collection. I have maybe 20 fighting games for the 360. "360 controllers are bad for fighting games" thing that has spread around, well. PS3 controllers feel more bulky and less fluid. Personally, I find the Xbox 360 controllers easier to hold and they feel better in the hand. Where do you like the left control stick? That's about it. I'm thinking these claim on BOTH sides of controllers on either system either being better or worse are both rather. Except for the placement of the left control stick and d-pad. Forgive me, but they're damn-near identical. I have absolutely never understood why so many people think that the controller style is better than the Xbox style. I've done the same for Playstation as well since it came out, the first one. I have played Xbox games at family and friends for as long as both systems have been out. I could only afford one system, I chose the 360. I will hand it to Microsoft though, I played those Burger King Xbox games when they came out around 5 years ago and they stand out in my mind as some of the most ridiculously entertaining games ever. I'm hoping to get my hands on a PS3 sometime in the near future, after I finish all my current Wii games. I have quite a few friends who have gone through numerous systems, and it's not very reassuring. ![]() Also, yes, I'm one of those people who thinks the 360 breaks often. so PSN's fiasco doesn't really bother me. Online capabilities don't concern me much. (Heavy Rain, LittleBigPlanet, the upcoming Shadow of the Colossus collection for ex). The exclusives on the PS3 are drawing me in more and more, much more so than those on Xbox. ![]() From the first time I picked up an Xbox controller when I was like, 13, I just never liked the feel. For one, I like the controllers much better. I've been considering it for a while and think I'm going to end up with the PS3. I'm trying to change that though, and I'd really like to branch out. I don't have either console, as I've mostly been a slave to Nintendo for my entire gaming career. IMO the 360 is the worst console of this generation. It's nice, but Tales of Graces f is coming out for the PS3 soon, so you'll still get your Tales fix on that console. The only exclusive I've enjoyed for it is Tales of Vesperia. Take your pick, but I regret my decision to buy a 360 virtually every time I boot it up. But from what I've seen, the PS3 has a good digital distribution program too, featuring plenty of old classics. The only reason I'd suggest the 360 is the Xbox Live Arcade, which is robust. Most of the good 360 games are available on the PS3 or PC anyway, which in my mind decreases its value as a gaming platform. ![]() I own one, and have found very few games I like for it. The Xbox seems to be mainly a console for shooters. It's also superior to the Xbox in terms of hardware-L.A. You get unique titles like Heavy Rain and Little Big Planet, which I've wanted to play but haven't been able to. From what I've read the PS3 has the most exclusives of any console this generation.
